Nopalcactus.com is a small editorial project run by Sway LLC, a U.S.-based publishing operation. We exist to do one thing well: produce thorough, citation-backed, long-form writing about Opuntia ficus-indica — the nopal cactus, prickly pear, the plant on the Mexican flag — and the foods and beverages that come from it.
What this is
A field journal in the editorial sense: thorough, organized, written for adults who want to understand something rather than be sold something. Each entry is researched, sourced, and written from scratch. Where we cite studies, we cite real ones. Where we make claims, we identify the evidence base behind them.
The site covers four pillars:
- Hydration — cactus water, prickly pear juice, the modern functional-beverage category
- Nutrition and health — what nopal actually does in the body, with the underlying research honestly read
- Cooking and cultivation — how to grow, prepare, and cook with the plant
- Heritage — the 9,000-year story of one plant's relationship with human civilization
What this isn't
Not a content farm. Not a thinly-disguised affiliate operation. Not generated by AI without human research and editing. Not a vehicle for promoting supplements, wellness products, or branded merchandise. We make no income from product placement; we accept no sponsored content; and we don't sell anything from this domain.
Editorial standards
Health claims require evidence. Historical claims require sources. Cultural claims require care. We hold all three. For the methodology behind how articles are researched and edited, see the methodology page.
Who runs it
Sway LLC, a small editorial team. We're not medical professionals; nothing on this site is medical advice. For health decisions, talk to a clinician.
How we're funded
Currently, we're not. The site is independent and operates without revenue. If that changes, it'll be disclosed clearly: any sponsored content, affiliate links, or paid arrangements will be labeled as such. Until then, the editorial product is the project.
